Tryouts Q & A

HOW MANY "NATIONAL" TEAMS WILL THERE BE FOR THIS 2025-26 CLUB SEASON?

There will ONLY be (2) National Teams: U15 National and U16 National. (We will NOT have a U14 National Team this season). We will have (2) U14 Regional Teams.

WHAT IF THERE IS A CONFLICT WITH MULTIPLE CLUB TRYOUTS?

Most clubs will be sending offers through emails after tryouts. Our coaches, however, will make the majority of our offers during tryouts. For this reason, we highly recommend you come to FVBC tryouts if you have serious interest in our teams or view FVBC as your preferred club.

CAN I TRYOUT FOR DIFFERENT LEVELS (REGIONAL AND NATIONAL) AND/OR MULTIPLE AGE GROUPS?

For those players who want to try to play up an age level, the club requires that you have to make the top 6 players (the starting lineup) of that higher age level.  Trying out for both age levels is necessary to be considered for the higher age playing group.  Players do not have to pay 2 tryout fees to try out for an additional age group. Players also do not have to pay two tryout fees for both levels in an age group. Please note: players that are trying out up in an age group that has a National team can only be considered for the National team.  Players cannot “try out up” to the Regional team .

Players only need to pay 1 registration fee. This will cover all tryout sessions for all age groups and levels.

Players should notify the club administrators in advance or upon arrival at try out check if they do not wish to be considered for a National level team if they only wish to be considered for the Regional level team.

SHOULD I ARRIVE EARLY?

All players will need to be at the facility 30 minutes before the actual tryout time to go through the registration process and paperwork.

Athletes will not be permitted to tryout if the required CHRVA "membership"  is not updated and current.

NOTE:  All Tryout sessions are CLOSED. Parents will not be permitted to observe tryouts while in session.  Parents are welcome to wait in the lobby areas during the tryouts so the athletes can be fully focused on the tryout process and engaged with the coaches.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO TRYOUTS?

Players should bring the following AND ONLY THE FOLLOWING to tryouts:

  1.   Water bottle (make sure it is marked with your name). Water bottles permitted inside the gym on the courts must have a cap or top that can close to prevent liquids from spilling and damaging our courts. "Open drink cups" (i.e Dunkin, Starbucks, etc. are NOT permitted. Stanley cups with an open straw are NOT permitted.
  2.   Volleyball knee pads
  3.   Appropriate athletic shoes
  4.   Comfortable athletic clothes
  5.   A great attitude!!

WILL I KNOW RIGHT AFTER THE TRYOUT PERIOD WHETHER I HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR A TEAM?  **NEW Rule from CHRVA**

During the Tryout session players may receive an immediate verbal or written offer or a waitlist offer

•            If you receive an immediate offer, you have until that following TUESDAY by 10pm to make your decision and accept the offer. If you do not respond within that time period, we will assume that you are declining the offer and will then offer your position to the next player on the waitlist.

•            If you are given an Offer and you decide to decline it, please advise us ASAP so your spot can be offered to another player who is interested.

•            If you receive a Waitlist offer, you will be contacted in a few days with either an offer to join a team or to let you know that the team rosters are full.  Coaches will stay in touch with players until all positions have been filled.

•          If you received a waitlist offer, it does not mean you are guaranteed a spot or that a spot will not open up.  Please be patient as coaches assemble their teams.  Also, if you choose to join another club, please let the us know so we can take you off the list (and avoid an awkward conversation).

WILL THERE BE ANY SUPPLEMENTAL TRYOUTS?

Supplemental tryouts might be held at the discretion of the coaches and depend on how well they fill their rosters. Please check our website and social media after your tryout date to see if we schedule additional times.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO ACCEPT AN OFFER?

You will need to email the coach back and accept in writing.  In order to secure your roster spot, a deposit of 25% of the total dues must be paid.  The remaining balance will be paid over a 3-month period beginning in December (October for the Boys teams).  The Club Administrator will send a financial contract to you and your family to sign.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I ACCEPT THE OFFER?

Once you accept our offer to play for FVBC, you may not pursue an offer from a different club or team. Your coach will contact you about training, the club/team meeting in November to sign your official contract, meet with your teammates, order uniforms. etc.   Declining an offer AFTER accepting may subject you to disqualification of playing for a team governed by USAV.
